The annual 4 Nations tennis tournament is being held from September 9th-12th at the Welsh National Tennis Centre in Ocean Way, Cardiff. The hosts Wales will face teams from England, Scotland and Ireland in senior, U18, U14 and U12 age groups.
All teams are made up of two girls and two boys in each age group. The format of the tournament is a round robin, where each nation will play against each other for the title in the separate age groups and also for the overall national title.
Three TEAMBATH MCTA players, based at the International High Performance Centre (IHPC) at the University of Bath, have been selected to represent England. Dan Cochrane and Toby Martin, both from Ralph Allen School in Bath, will fly the flag for the senior team. Martin became the AEGON Under-18 Boy’s National Grand Prix Masters Champion in February and he also picked up his first ATP point in June, becoming the fifth player at the IHPC to gain a senior world ranking. Martin then moves on to Nottingham next week, having been awarded a wild card into the Main Draw of the Men’s $10k event. Dan recently qualified for a group 1 ITF and narrowly missed out in qualifying for junior Wimbledon.
Sixteen-year-old Luke Johnson will represent England in the U18 age group. Luke is undertaking the Advanced Apprenticeship in Sporting Excellence programme (AASE) and attached to Tennis Academy for training and tournaments.
Joely Lomas, from Swansea, is in her 2nd year at TEAMBATH MCTA and attends Monkton Combe School. She will be representing Wales in the U12 age group.
Head coach David Sammel says "Representing your country is always an honour. These players will experience this at a young age and TEAMBATH-MCTA are proud of their efforts this year which have earned this selection." |
