For two years running MCTA players have excelled at Junior Wimbledon. Henri Kontinen has gone one step further than Anna Fitzpatrick’s 2007 Junior semi-final appearance beating Bernard Tomic of Australia, the current world No 2 Junior, 7-6(3) 6-4 in an excellent display of attacking tennis.

Henri’s rise in the Junior rankings over the last 18 months is nothing less than spectacular and the goal of a World Junior Top 10 finish is now well within his grasp.

Although Anna Fitzpatrick failed to qualify for senior Wimbledon this year in singles her world ranking has progressed almost 200 places since last year and she is expected to emerge much stronger for Wimbledon 2009.

The concept of the MCTA touring academy and the process that its players go through are proving to be an effective way of producing top players. The excellent work done by MCTA coaches and trainers is proven, not only by these results, but the accolade of Andy Murray contracting MCTA physical trainer Jez Green to head his conditioning programme. Andy’s physical improvement is evident – particular during his epic comeback match against Gasquet - and has been widely acknowledged during these Wimbledon Championships.

MCTA director of tennis David Sammel says: “We have always believed that the touring academy concept of placing a good team of coaches and trainers around players on Tour is the most effective way of producing players and the results achieved in MCTA’s first two years are now confirming that belief.”
