El Paso from a Player’s Perspective We arrived in El Paso a few days ago; it took 2 days and 4 flights from Monte Carlo to get here which turned into a bit of a grind. But Hugh Grant was on our flight from Heathrow to New York so that was pretty cool. El Paso isn’t the most exciting place; it consists of the tennis club, the hotel, a few mountains and a whole lot of nothing. The first couple of training sessions were ‘interesting’ as we had come from 5 weeks on European clay to the high bouncing American hard courts! Training is especially tough here as the air is very thin coz we are 4000 feet above sea level. Also, Americans seem to be very patriotic, there are loads of signs saying God bless America and Support our Troops and stuff like that! So far, we have eaten lunch at Subway every day which is awesome! I discovered 102.1 fm, which is a ridiculously good radio station with the best of Hip Hop and R&B, but we don’t get to listen to it in the car coz the hard core rockers (Jez, Hampo and Ilija) don’t like it!!!! The club is ok, it has loads of courts and unfortunately it also has a mini track, which Jez is loving! The hotel is really good, every room has a 42 inch plasma screen TV and a big sofa! Ilija and I are still in singles and everybody is still in doubles so the tournament is going pretty good. Haste la vista, Anna |
