Greetings from Abu Dhabi…and I do say that completely tongue in cheek as I actually should be in Dubai but thick fog has caused us to be re-routed! We’ve also just been informed that we are going to be on this plane for 2 hours before we can resume our journey so its blog time. Its OK though as it was only a 14 hour flight from Melbourne so what’s another 2 hours between friends at completely the wrong airport. Actually I was in Abu Dhabi only a few weeks ago for an exhibition where Andy managed to beat Federer and Nadal. Not a bad start to the year and matched only by the hotel that we stayed in that week….well I say hotel but if I say that the place was actually called The Emirates Palace that would give a better indication of the grandeur of this establishment. I have never seen anything like this before, all marble and gold and the rooms were the size of penthouse apartments. It took exactly 9 minutes to get from my room to breakfast and I almost bought a GPS system to navigate the different wings. The sheer opulence was astounding. Shakira was staying there as well and on new years eve all the players went to see her concert which was a nice way to see in 2009. Unfortunately we didn’t manage to bump into each other but I did hear she was looking for me… or maybe it was the other way round! |

Hi All, Question: What do you do if you have to kill 20 minutes before a training session? Now usually the answer is something like get a latte, watch the players hitting or go over the programme for that day….but it doesn’t normally include driving around Florida in a brand new black Ferrari but that’s what happened today. My thanks go out to Sebastian Grosjean for taking me out in his awesome car and for actually laughing when I made the comment that at least we know there’s something out there that changes direction faster than he does! |

LA STORY Hi all and greetings from Los Angeles where Wes and I are currently training out of UCLA. We have been Stateside for three weeks now and this week is my favourite, three days of only physical conditioning and then tennis on the last two days. So far the trip has gone well, Wes made the singles semifinal of the Newport tour event and then the week after in LA made the semifinal of the doubles. But this week is all about fitness!!! |

I am writing this blog from the new LTA National Tennis Centre (NTC) at Roehampton which is truly an amazing facility. In fact, one particularly savvy media employee described it saying: “If Carlsberg did tennis centres, they would probably be the best in the world.” This is a pretty good assessment of this centre. Anna and I were invited to stay here for 10 days and use all the facilities for a block of physical training before the grass court matches start in earnest and I have not been in many better places in all my years of training. We were welcomed very warmly and made to feel very at home while we worked and nothing was ever too much and whatever we needed was provided with no delay. This included access to a world class gym, courts, physiotherapy support, very comfortable lodging with wireless and food carefully prepared by a Michelin starred chef. All for the players and staff. No expense has been spared to make this an absolutely state of the art facility. |

Hi all, Well, the American road trip Ana and I have been on has come to an end for now but only after we covered about 3,500 thousand miles in three weeks going between Atlanta, Georgia, Mississippi, Florida, Dothan, Alabama, Sea Island and back to Atlanta. That’s four states and three tournaments. |
