Well, things didnt go too well today for me unfortunately. Ive been reduced to a mixed doubles specialist. I kind of feel like Ivanisevic did when he said "I am going to win a Wimbledon title - even if it's over 45's in the mixed event." Well, on the bright side - at least Im in the OPEN mixed event. Playing mixed doubles after losing a (mostly) poor attempt at a doubles match is a little bit like playing in the back draw in juniors. You don't really want to play because you still want to be part of the main draw but at the same time you know you have to play. Anyway, I played with Patty Schnyder and we had a good time out there. It was definitely better than the back draw! The full show court also helped....So....it's a day off for me which means I'll be in the gym in the morning with an 1hrs practice afterwards. There is a great gym across the road from Aussie Open site. I believe it's where Collingwood (Aussie Rules team) trains. I saw a Colliingwood player there doing single leg olympic lifting.....I might have to try that some time! Well, the Aussie Open is slowly unfolding. There have been few unexpected results - including Nalbandian who added a name to the list of players who he shouldnt have lost to. One big surprise for me was Stepanek against Verdasco. Stepanek was serving at 4-3 up - WITH A BREAK...and he never won another game. Losing 64 60 60. Thats impressive. So the top 4 seeds are still on course and someone else is going to have to play exceptional tennis to take one of their spots.... Will write again in a few days. |
